Since June 2015 our farm has been ‘off grid’, meaning disconnected from any sort of state supplied utility. Going off grid is not an event, but more of a process. Since we moved here in 2003 we slowly reduced our reliance on grid electricity until we reached a point where it was possible to switch off the mains power.
